This post conveniently serves as both an explanation of the name of the blog and a way for me to test its functionality. Efficiency galore.
The name Functional Egotist comes from the concept of a functional or functioning addict, normally an alcoholic. Such people are supposedly able to go about their daily business (including work, family, and personal/societal responsibilities) while still engaging in addictive behavior. They are able to function normally within society while still having a major problem/issue.
The very fact that I'm writing this and think that anyone might care at all about what I have to say means that I am at least a bit of an egotist. I am able to carry on normal, non-offensive conversations with strangers and acquaintances, but have been called an elitist to my face by a friend with whom I shared my real opinions. This is my definition of a functional egotist: someone who probably has too high of an opinion of himself, but makes a real attempt to not be a complete jerk to others, therefore appearing normal to most people. This is a place for me to express those true feelings/opinions in a (hopefully) entertaining manner.
